Tung fort
Now we were planning for another easy level trek, and we decided to go tung fort. Tung fort is also known as kathingad[कठीणगड]. The word “kathin” in marathi means difficult. One side of route always exposes to valley so need to take proper care while climbing.

History of tung fort

before writing further about tung fort, I would like to tell some history about this fort. On 12th june 1665 according to treaty of purandar, kubadkhan with halakhan and others took over the forts. Tung was small that hardly 200 troops could reside on the fort, this fort was built as a watch tower.
Tung was built by adilshahi dynasty captured by shivaji maharaj, later this fort was added in swarajiya in 1657. Jaishingh attacked this region in 1665, from netaji palkar who was given the duty to guard this region in 1660. Dilerkhan destroyed the nearby villages of tung and tikona fort, but he failed to gain this fort.
About Tung fort
It is located near pawana dam around 60 km from pune. The base village of fort is tungwadi. Tung fort has an elevation of 1075 m above sea level. The fort is conical and has steep climbs with a very narrow route on the edge of the mountain throughout. fort is located close to pawna dam hence you can see backwater from three side of fort.
To reach at the base village of fort from pune is pune – chadani chowk – pirangut – paud – take a right at paud after bus stand – hadashi – javan – take a left at javan – after junction hilton resort, look for proper t junction – take a right at t junction and drive for 3 km – take a left and park your vehicle at maruti temple.
28th december 2017: trek to tung
We woke up early morning by 5.30 am and left home by 6 am. We meet together and started journey on bike’s towards tung fort. After we covered some distance we stop for some rest and cooling our bike’s. then we decided 1st we climb tikona fort and then tung fort. That’s why we 1st climb tikona fort and then after seeing tikona fort. we immediately started our journey to tung fort. We reached to the base village ‘tungwadi’ at 1 pm.

There is a temple of lord hanuman at the base village. Ample parking space is available close to temple. After we reach there we eat our tiffin’s. after short break, our trek begins.

Trek route begins with bit steep but steady height gain so we dicided to take it a slowly.

The wonderful scenery was adding towards us forgetting our tiredness and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Main Entrance Of Fort ( kamani Darwaja )
Within 30 minutes, we reached at main entrance of fort. From this point we saw some ruined part of fortification.

Remain Part Of Bastion
After few steps take a stright look and we see a bastion. The rouate is very narrow to reach there but is safe.

After few min walk we reached at lord ganesh temple.

Water Tank
You can see water trench/ tank backside of ganesh temple. It not a drinking water.

Sadar
There is runied part of sadar (meeting hall or administration room) just opposite to temple.

Fortfication
You can also see bastion fortfication.

Base Point Bale-Killa
Soon we reached at the base point of bale killa (small fort constructed above fort). To climb bale-killa was not really difficult job.

WayTo Bale-Killa
Narrow rocky path and it exposing to valley on one side. Bale-killa is built to protect your surrounding fort and constructed in such a way that it is difficult to climn and conquer in war.

Tungi Devi Temple
We all climb on the peack successfully. Space on the top of fort is very small. There is small temple of tungi devi. Opposite to it is a cave in ground.

View From Bale-Killa
The view from top is just breathtaking. From here, you get an excellent view of tikona fort with pawna dam. One can also see lohagad and visapur forts from the top.

Entire pawana mawal region can be seen from top. We spend more time in photography and enjoying the beatiful nature. After some time we decided to descend. It was fun to descend rocky patch. After we reached at our parked vehicle at the base village, we left the historical place.

Dam
After covered some distance we stay at dam and enjoying the water of dam. Food is not available at base village. We drove till paud village and then had tasty lunch at gokul hotel. We reached home by 9 pm with beatiful day, and good experience.
